Director Reema Kagti's Gold might be about a hockey team's astounding achievements, but that does not mean it won't have some fun. The latest song, 'Chadh Gayi Hai', sees Akshay Kumar shed his Bengali character to return to his Punjabi roots. Composed by Sachin-Jigar, the song is sung by Vishal Dadlani, with the composers in background.

The song seems to be set at a welcome party as the team and its manager arrive in London for the 1948 Olympics. Except, things go wrong as Tapan Das (Akshay) gets drunk on some shady stuff, and takes to the floor at the party. As his team, and a very miffed wife watch on, Das goes on a total 'desi' drunk dance marathon in front of the gathered dignitaries.

'Chadh Gayi Hai' is a dance number that kind of shifts Akshay's character from Bengali to Punjabi. With Dadlani providing the vocals, Sachin-Jigar deliver a fun, party song. The lyrics matter little in a song like this, and Vayu's lyrics play on it. From garbled mathematics that recount the number of glasses to moves, the song is completely over-the-top. While Dadlani brings in enough energy to the composition, the theme seems a little off in a sports drama.

There is also the wacky choreography of Akshay which adds to the flavour. However, the visuals of the song also suggest a conspiracy underlying the fun and party games on screen.

Gold will be out in theatres on Independence Day, 15 August.
