Actress Asiwharya Rai Bachchan finds herself playing a pop singer, Baby Singh, in the upcoming film Fanney Khan. The film's makers have released the first song. Though titled 'Mohabbat', it is more of a fun track. Everyone needs love, that’s the essence of the song.
In 1946, lyricist Tanvir Naqvi had penned the song 'Jawan Hai Mohabbat Haseen Hai Zamana' for the Mehbood Khan film Anmol Ghadi. Naushad had scored the music and it was sung by Noor Jehan. Fast forward to 2018, Baghchi has used the words 'jawaan hai mohabbat'. While calling it a remake may not be appropriate, the 1946 song seems to have been an inspiration for lyricist Irshad Kamil.
Lyricist Irshad Kamil has used fairly easy words to pen this simple and appealing track. More than the lyrcis, it’s the vibrant pop score by Tanishk Bagchi that makes this a thoroughly enjoyable track. The music of the mukhda is soft, but the song picks tempo at intermittent levels.
The fine pop score comes more alive through the powerful, energetic voice performance. It is songs like these that make Sunidhi Chauhan the go-to singer for pop songs in Hindi cinema.
Rai Bachchan shines as Baby Singh. However, the actress is not convincing in her dance. She appears sluggish in her moves.
A better effort in dance and more agility could have made this track a treat to watch. Nevertheless, it has fine music and despite her frailties as a dancer here, Rai Bachchan presents a song that you can listen to on a loop.
Fanney Khan will be released on 3 August.
