After conquering the Indian box office, Rajkumar Hirani's blockbuster film, Sanju, starring Ranbir Kapoor, will be going to the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) for a special screening for Australian students. The Australian festival will be held from 10-22 August. Its theme for this year is unity through inclusion.
Hirani will be attending the festival on 11-12 August. The filmmaker will be part of a panel discussion on the first day. Sanju co-writer Abhijat Joshi will also be present at IFFM alongside other Indian personalities like actors Ali Fazal, Ram Charan, actresses Rani Mukerji, Richa Chadha, Freida Pinto, Mrunal Thakur, filmmakers Siddharth P Malhotra, Qaushiq Mukherjee (popularly known as Q), and critic Rajeev Masand.
According to the festival, Hirani will screen Sanju for students of Australia's La Trobe University. Some students may have never seen an Indian film before. The filmmaker is due to present the film and talk about actor Sanjay Dutt on whom the film is based.
In a statement, Hirani said, "It’s always an enriching experience when people of different diaspora watch our films. I look forward to the special screening of Sanju for the students at La Trobe. It would be an interesting experience to see the reactions of those who are almost alien to Hindi films and the life of Sanjay Dutt."
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is planning to show an eclectic mix of films from the sub-continent from hits like Padmaavat (2018) and Raazi (2018) to National Award-winners Village Rockstars (2017) to Hello Arsi (2018). Other classics like Siddharta (1972) starring Simi Garewal and Chandni (1989) starring the late Sridevi will also be shown.
