After Sanju, Sanjay Dutt sets out to pen autobiography with Harper Collins 

After letting close friend, director Rajkumar Hirani tell the story of his life in Sanju (2018), actor Sanjay Dutt is set to take things into his own hand. The actor has signed a deal for an autobiography with publishing house Harper Collins. The publishers have announced that the book will be available in the market in time for the 60th birthday celebrations of the actor in 2019.

In an official press release, Harper Collins stated, "What makes Sanjay Dutt’s journey an epic story, quite apart from his professional accomplishments, are the ebbs and flows that have characterised his life. It is a story that begins with his losing his mother Nargis Dutt even as he was making his debut in Rocky [1981]; and it is a story that then encompasses substance abuse, multiple heartbreaks, encounters with the law and a staggered stint in prison, alongside his closeness to his father Sunil Dutt who stood by him through thick and thin, his superstardom, his enviable physique, and finally his return to the big screen and his contented family life."

The announcement of the book arrives in close heels of the success of Hirani's Sanju which told the story of Dutt's misdemeanours, successes and failures.

Speaking about the book, Dutt said, "I am delighted that next year, as I turn sixty, HarperCollins will be publishing my autobiography. I have had the fortune of living a remarkable life, full of ups and downs, joys and sorrows. There are so many interesting stories to tell that I’ve never had the chance to tell before. I am looking forward so much to sharing my memories and emotions with readers everywhere."

In March earlier this year, Dutt had threatened to sue Juggernaut Books and author Yasser Usman after they published Sanjay Dutt: The Crazy Untold Story of Bollywood’s Bad Boy.

Dutt had accused Usman and Juggernaut Books of publishing a book based on gossip, tabloid reports which were 'figments of imagination and not true'. While the publishing house did not retract the book, they did stop the publishing of excerpts from it.

After the experience, it seems that Dutt has taken matters into his own hands by writing an official autobiography. In doing so, Dutt will join names like Rishi Kapoor, Karan Johar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Soha Ali Khan as the latest actor to write an autobiography.
