The 72-year-old singer will return as the voice of Rajinikanth, keeping with a long standing tradition of singing the introductory song in the actor's films.
Rajinikanth and SP Balasubrahmanyam to team up again for Karthik Subbaraj's next

After a gap of two key films, Kabali (2016) and Kaala (2018), SP Balasubrahmanyam will return as the voice for the introductory song for Rajinikanth in director Karthik Subbaraj's next.
Rajinikanth is currently shooting the film in Darjeeling.
It has been a longstanding practice of Rajinikanth's entry in his films to be announced with a hit track, often sung by Balasubrahmanyam. The singer sang the opening songs for films like Annaamalai (1992), Muthu (1995), Arunachalam (1997), Chandramukhi (2005), and Enthiran (2010).
However, the veteran singer was not a part of Pa Ranjith's last two films with Rajinikanth in the lead. It is likely that the makers of the actor's next, which is also his 165th film, have roped in Balasubrahmanyam as a lucky mascot for the star.
The film is also the first collaboration between Karthik Subbaraj and Rajinikanth. Subbaraj's directorial credits include films like Jigarthanda (2014), Pizza (2012) and Iraivi (2016).
The music for the film will be composed by Rajinikanth's nephew and composer Anirudh Ravichander.
The film, tentatively titled Thalaivar 165, also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha, Yogi Babu, and is produced by Sun Pictures.
