Masaan (2015) director Neeraj Ghaywan's Juice won the Best Film award and Umesh Bagade's Marathi film Anahut bagged the Best Film Popular award at the 2nd edition of the Jio Filmfare Short Film Awards 2018.
Juice's lead, Shefali Shah, won the Best Actress trophie, while Jackie Shroff picked as the Best Actor for Khujli. The winners were selected by the jury that included, Karan Johar, Kabir Khan, Nikkhil Advani, Onir and Shakun Batra.
Ghaywan’s Juice, starring Shah, takes place at an evening gathering of her husband's friends at their home. However, the gender lines are drawn out from the beginning. Shah’s housewife Manju slaves away in the hot interiors of the kitchen with the wives of the men who have joined the party, while their husbands chat and enjoy themselves in the cool living room. By the end of the night, Manju has had enough and makes her feelings known to all.
Khujli, directed by Sonam Nair, features Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta as husband and wife — Girdharilal and Roopmati. The husband finds a pair of hot pink handcuffs in his son’s bedroom and the wife, a fan of the Fifty Shades of Grey series, initiates him on its use.
Hari M Mohanan's Invisible Wings, a short about a tea-seller couple, Vijayan and Mohana, who have travelled the world, won the Best Documentary award. The adventurous couple have visited over 18 countries, from Thailand to Austria to Egypt.
Finally, Umesh Bagade's Anahut, starring Samidha Guru, Harshali Belwalkar stresses on the importance of health and sex education amongst teenagers.
