Firebrand to be Priyanka Chopra's next Marathi production after Ventilator

She might be working in the chilly climate of New York city, but Priyanka Chopra has not taken her eyes off her home production. The actress' Purple Pebble Pictures announced their next Marathi film, Firebrand, to be helmed by National award winning director Arunaraje Patil. 

Chopra's home production enjoyed its biggest success with the release of their Marathi venture, Ventilator. Directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, the film went on to win 3 National awards — Best Director, Best Audiography, and Best Editing. 

Arunaraje Patil, who is known for her National award winning documentaries on Mallika Sarabhai, and a documentary on special children, New Paradigm (2002). The filmmaker is also known for writing screenplay for films like Shaque (1976), Gehrayee (1980) and Rihaee (1988). 

Firebrand will feature actors like Usha Jadhav, Sachin Khedekar, Girish Kulkarni and Rajeshwari Sachdev. The film's story will reportedly revolve around the life of a couple (Khedekar and Sachdev) undergoing a critical phase. The film went on floors on Monday, 8 January. 

The actress tweeted out her best wishes, writing, "2018 is here and we’ve hit the ground running with our new Marathi production #Firebrand directed by the amazing @aruraje which began filming yesterday. All the very best."

The film is the latest in a slew of projects in regional cinema that the production house has focussed on. While she continues to be involved in her work in Hollywood, Chopra's production has diversified attention through stories across India's regional cinema. These include Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi (Bhojpuri), the Punjabi film Sarvann (2017) and the critically acclaimed Sikkimese film, Pahuna (2017).
