The partial Maharashtra bandh called by the Dalit community on 3 January affected the business of cinema as the state capital Mumbai is the entertainment hub and home to many multiplexes.
Despite the bandh in Maharashtra, Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai garnered approximately Rs6 crore nett on Wednesday, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The approximate loss due to the bandh was to the tune of Rs1 crore.

Tiger Zinda Hai, which has released across 4,600 screens in India on 22 December 2017, bagged Rs7.75 crore nett on Tuesday. The drop was over 20%, but Tiger Zidna Hai is still going steady at the box office. The film has so far collected Rs285.79 crore nett. The Yash Raj Films' action film is made at a estimated budget of Rs150 crore.
With no major releases this Friday, Tiger Zinda Hai is on course to cross the Rs300-crore nett mark. Khan's two other films - Sultan (2016) nd Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) had bagged over Rs300 crore. Sultan made Rs300.67 crore nett, while Bajrangi Bhaijaan had bagged Rs315.49 crore nett.
The state of Maharashtra was left paralysed on 3 January after agitating Dalits, mostly from the Republican Party of India, forced a shutdown to protest against the caste-based violence that took place in Koregaon, Pune on 1 January.
