Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) shattered all box office records to garner over Rs17 billion worldwide. SS Rajamouli’s epic film has added another distinction after it came second on the Rotten Tomatoes list of ‘Best Movies Off the Radar 2017’.
Rotten Tomatoes is an American review aggregation website for film and television. Rajamouli’s epic film stood second to the American thriller, American Fable. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is the only Indian film in this list.
While it’s placed second in this list, the Indian film has scored over American Fable in terms of getting a 100% score on the Tomatometer (aggregate review score). American Fable scored 71% on the Tomatometer.
Tim Ryan, a reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes showered glowing praise on the Indian film.
“Baahubali 2: The Conclusion plays like a shotgun wedding between Ben Hur and Kung Fu Hustle, seasoned with bits of Shakespeare, Kurosawa, and Buster Keaton. In other words, it’s a blockbuster that’s both gigantic and lighter than air. What separates this epic (which was a massive hit in India and within the South Asian diaspora) from its American brethren is its sincerity and optimism: its righteous titular hero (played by Prabhas) and his band of honorable men and women clash with scheming, corrupt bad guys, and it feels alternately old-fashioned and refreshingly bold. It’s the kind of film that reminds us why we love going to the movies,” wrote Ryan.
In November, The American National Basketball Association had put up a treat for fans in India when dancers performed to the 'Sahore' song from Baahubali 2: The Conclusion before a game in Orlando, Florida.
