In November, Mahesh Bhatt had confirmed the sequel to his 1991 romantic, crime drama Sadak that will see his daughter Pooja Bhatt, and Sanjay Dutt reprise their roles as Pooja and Ravi, respectively. Since then there have been stories that Pooja’s half sibling Alia Bhatt, too, has been roped in for the project along with her rumoured boyfriend Sidharth Malhotra.
The Bhatts were targeting a 31 August release this year, but if Alia is on board, then the project is likely to be delayed as daddy's little girl has a tight schedule.
The Udta Punjab (2016) actress will begin shooting for Dharma Productions’ Brahmastra in February 2018 and follow it up with Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy.
Tabloid Mid-day quoted a source as saying: “Alia is juggling Brahmastra and Gully Boy. While the former releases in 2019, the latter is scheduled to hit screens later this year. Alia will also be busy promoting Raazi for a couple of months, as it releases in May. So, Sadak 2 has been postponed. It will roll by the end of 2018."
There is no official word so far on whether Alia and Malhotra are on board for Sadak 2. Buzz has it that Alia and Malhotra were initially roped for Aashiqui 3, but that project has been put on hold and the duo is now likely to be seen together in Sadak 2.
Mahesh had helmed the first film, but the veteran filmmaker will only write the sequel. Sadak received acclaim more so for the late Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who famously played the villanous role of the eunuch Maharani. Pooja will return as an actress after 16 years. She was last seen in Lawrence D'Souza's Sanam Teri Kasam (2009). Dutt is currently shooting for Girish Malik's Torbaaz.
