Indie filmmaker Q aka Qaushiq Mukherjee's Garbage is set to be among the only Indian films to premiere at the upcoming Berlinale Film Festival to be held in Germany. A political drama that reflects the story of the time, the film will premiere in the Panorama section of the festival to be held between 15-25 February 2018.
Produced by Shaailesh R Singh and director Hansal Mehta's Karma Entertainment LLP, in association with Q's OddJoint, the film tells the story of Phanishwar, Nanaam and Rami who are caught in a destructible relationship with each other.
In a statement, the director Q said, "I see garbage as a strong metaphor of human existence. I am shocked at the level of violent patriarchy and general apathy around me. India has been changing, and sucking itself into an abyss of misunderstanding and delusion, aided strongly by mainstream religious sentiments.There’s an imminent threat of the fragile social fabric imploding and affecting everyone. Garbage is my way of trying to understand the tension."
Producer Singh was also quoted as saying, "A political drama that reflects the times we are living in, Garbage, Q’s new directorial venture will be premiering at Panorama, Berlinale this year."
The complete lineup of the Panorama section features 47 films from 40 countries across the world. The section will open with Wolfgang Fischer's Styx, and will also have Idris Elba's directorial debut, Yardie.
Q, who launched into cult status, with his 2010, Gandu. The director's last film, Brahman Naman (2016) was invited to the Sundance Film Festival (2016), and also premiered on NetFlix.
