Girish Kulkarni, Usha Jadhav to play leads in Priyanka Chopra’s Firebrand

Directed by Aruna Raje, the film also stars Sachin Khedekar and Rajeshwari Sachdev.

Girish Kulkarni and Usha Jadhav have teamed up for the first time for Priyanka Chopra’s next Marathi movie, Firebrand. Helmed by National Award winning director Aruna Raje, the film will have the two actors play a married couple.

Kulkarni made it to the limelight for his fine performances in negative roles in Faster Fene (2017), Kaabil (2017) and Dangal (2016). However, Firebrand will have him in a positive role as an architect. This will also be a first where he plays a character belonging to the educated, urban class.

Jadhav, too, will be seen in the role of a highly educated professional, a lawyer, for the first time. Firebrand will be her return to Marathi cinema after Dhag (2014), which had won her the National Award for Best Actress and also bagged National Award trophies for Best Director (Shivaji Lotan Patil) and a Special Jury Mention (for child actor Hansraj Jagtap).

Firebrand also stars Sachin Khedekar and Rajeshwari Sachdev.

“Firebrand is a contemporary story about relationships and the highs and lows people deal with in their lives. Priyanka Chopra and Dr Madhu Chopra are focusing on regional cinema and backing unusual and good subjects in an endeavour to create meaningful cinema,” read a recent statement from the makers.

Director, Aruna Raje, is making a comeback after 14 years as her last directorial was Tum: A Dangerous Obsession (2004), starring Manisha Koirala.

Firebrand went on floors earlier this month on 8 January.
