The quirky, oddball trailer of Chakra Toleti's Welcome To New York took quite a few by surprise. In an industry that is far too careful about its image, the film is an almost parody of some of the most popular names in the industry.
From Karan Johar mocking himself to Rana Daggubatti playing on his Baahubali image, the film seems to be walking a tightrope between parody and satire. The first song from the film is straight into style mode though.
Titled 'Pant Mein Gun', the song was launched on Republic Day by superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Sung by Diljit Dosanjh himself, the song is composed by Sajid-Wajid. While the composition is the usual 'swag' style music with a touch of electronic and dance. Dosanjh manages to deliver it credibly, but the lyrics are quite disappointing.
Picturised on what appears to be an awards stage, with biggies like Johar, Neha Dhupia and Mika Singh in attendance, Dosanjh takes to the stage in true 'gangsta' style.
The film is directed by Toleti and stars Dosanjh, Sonakshi Sinha, Johar, Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani, among others. The film will be released on 23 February.
