Veteran south Indian actress T Krishna Kumari, popularly known as Krishna Kumari, passed away today at her residence in Bengaluru at the age of 85. According to reports, she was suffering from bone marrow cancer and was admitted to a city hospital recently. She is survived by her daughter Dikipa Kumari.
Krishna Kumari is known for her work in Telugu films, but she also had a sound body of work in Tamil and Kannada cinema. She made her debut with Pathala Bhairavi (1951), where she played a small role. Her first film as the lead actress was Navvithe Navratnalu (1951).
She acted with some big names of the south Industry like NT Rama Rao, Sivaji Ganesan, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Krishnam Raju and Dr Rajkumar.
Krishna Kumari was the younger sister of another well-known south actress Sowcar Janaki. She was married to Ajay Mohan Khaitan, who is the former editor of The Indian Express and the founder of Screen and Businessman magazines.
