The teaser of Sameer Asha Patil’s Yuntum gave a feeling that the film might be on the lines of a number of adolescent or teenage love stories dished out by Marathi cinema in last six years or so. Now, the trailer of the film makes has made the observation decisive.
Yuntum seems to have been well shot. The lead pair Vaibhav Kadam, who plays Ranga, and Apoorva Shalgaonkar, who is Meera, appear promising and share an impressive chemistry too.
But the budding love story between a rich girl and a poor boy in a village instantly reminds you of films like Sujay Dahake's Shala (2012), Nagraj Popatrao Manjule's Fandry (2014), Ravi Jadhav's Time Pass (2014) and the most prominent one, Manjule's Sairat (2016). The background score too is reminiscent of Sairat. Perhaps, what is new is the sub-plot of the dying demand and art of playing shehnai.
The trailer, close to three minutes, is also guilty of revealing too much. Key plot points are given away in their chronological order, from the fixing of the Meera's wedding to another boy to Ranga being asked to play Shehnai at Meera's wedding.
Yumtum is presented by Ravi Jadhav, produced by Amol Dnyaneshwar Kale, co-produced by Atul Dnyaneshwar Kale and directed by Sameer Asha Patil.
The film is all set to be released on 2 February.
