Major fire breaks out at Lower Parel’s Navrang Studio, fireman injured

A major fire broke out at 1 am today at Mumbai’s Navrang Cine Centre, popularly known as Navrang Studio. The studio situated in the city’s Lower Parel locality has been unoccupied for many years. One fireman was reported injured on the job.

The fire broke out on the fourth floor where the studio is located in an industrial estate building. According to the news agency PTI, 12 fire engines were rushed to the spot along with seven tankers, which brought the fire under control.

As per a report in The Times of India, a fireman got injured while dousing the fire after which he was rushed to a hospital. “A fireman Dinesh Patil, 26, has been injured during fire fighting operations and was rushed to Nair Hospital. His condition is stable now,” said an official to the daily.

The incident is one of the many fire accidents that have taken place in January in the city. The most infamous one was the deadly fire in Kamala Mills Compound that claimed 14 lives and injured many others. The compound is only a stone's throw away from Navrang Studio.

In the first week of the month, a massive fire also broke out at Cinevista Studio in the city where a couple of TV serials were being shot. No casualties were reported.

Last year, there was a fire at the iconic RK Studios, started by the late Raj Kapoor, causing great damage to props and costumes stored in the studio.
