Last year was among the more successful ones for Telugu cinema. One of the many big hits was the Vijay Devarakonda starrer Arjun Reddy (2017).
Going with the trend of South Indian hits being remade in Hindi, Arjun Reddy is all set for a Hindi version as well. According to reports, Arjun Kapoor is set to play the role of the angry, desperate neurosurgeon that made Vijay Devarakonda a star.
According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle newspaper, the actor has been involved in the acquisition of the rights to the film. Murad Khetani is expected to produce the film while Kapoor is expected to play the lead.
A source was quoted as saying, "The movie will be like Rockstar (2011) meets Dev.D (2009). Also, since the film’s rights have been bought at a high price and it is not going to be a typical masala potboiler, Arjun doesn’t want to overburden the project with his fee. He doesn’t want the budget to become an impediment and instead aims to see a quality film minus compromises."
There is a possibility of Telugu director Sandeep Vanga helming the Hindi version as well. The film is expected to go on the floors in February.
Arjun Reddy, which co-starred Shalini, told the story of a brilliant doctor whose anger management problem sends him down an irredeemable spiral in life. The film received a lot of critical acclaim and earned a cult following among Telugu-speaking youngsters.
