Christopher Nolan to attend Film Heritage Foundation event in Mumbai

The Dark Knight filmmaker will headline the event on 'Reframing the Future of Film', which is scheduled to take place on 31 March and 1 April.

Writer-director Christopher Nolan, best known for his sci-fi films and the Batman trilogy, will be a special guest at a Film Heritage Foundation event in Mumbai on 31 March and 1 April this year.

The filmmaker, accompanied by visual artist Tacita Dean, will headline the event on 'Reframing the Future of Film'. The event is being held to spread the importance of preserving photochemical film in the digital age. Nolan and Dean will take part in a roundtable discussion.

“Since our inception, we have been speaking for film as a shooting, exhibition and archival medium,” Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, founder director of the Film Heritage Foundation, said in a statement. “We have been fighting a losing battle and finally have the support of two of the leading film exponents in the world.”

In a statement, Nolan said, "Tacita and I are delighted to join with Shivendra and the Film Heritage Foundation in presenting 'Reframing the Future of Film'.

“India has such wonderful cinema and such a rich history of art that everything needs to be done not only to encourage its proper preservation for future generations but also to reintroduce the film medium to the younger artists and filmmakers in the country.”

This will not be the 47-year-old filmmaker's first visit to the country, however. Nolan had shot some portions of The Dark Knight Rises (2012)  in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

'Reframing the Future of Film' began as a discussion among prominent personalities in cinema and art in 2015 at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. It has also been held at the Tate Modern during the London Film Festival and at the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City.
