The actress previously worked with Akhtar on Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011).

Writer-director Zoya Akhtar’s next film, Gully Boy, will begin shooting next week. Lead actors Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt have been prepping for the film for weeks now.

Daily tabloid Mumbai Mirror reports that actress Kalki Koechlin, who worked with Akhtar on her second film, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), is expected to join the cast and will play a rapper.

Gully Boy is said to explore the inner lives of Mumbai street rappers like Naezy and Divine. Singh’s latest Instagram posts have him posing with rappers Divine, Kaam Bhari, and Nitin Mishra leading up to the film’s shooting.

The actress herself hasn’t confirmed the news but liked a fan’s tweet praising her casting for Gully Boy with Singh. She was last seen in Rakhee Sandaliya’s Ribbon (2017).

Gully Boy is co-written by Akhtar’s frequent collaborator, Reema Kagti, and will be filmed in Mumbai.
