Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is popular not only in India, but also in the international arena, thanks to many of his films doing the rounds of film festivals.
The digital bug has bitten Siddiqui too, as he is part of the cast of British TV series McMafia, which is now available in India through Amazon Prime Video. McMafia is created by Hossein Amini and James Watkins, and directed by the latter. It stars James Norton in the lead.
Siddiqui made the announcement via Twitter where he also unveiled the first look of his character.
Siddiqui looks cool, as well as menacing in this avatar. The actor plays the character of Dilly Mahmood, an Indian businessman who is also linked to the mafia.
The series also has Sexy Durga actress Rajshri Deshpande, who plays Manju, Mahmood’s moll. Speaking to Cinestaan.com, Deshpande said, “We shot in India for this towards the end of last year. Siddiqui also travelled to Croatia to shoot some his portions, but my part was shot only in India.”
Deshpande was floored by the warmth of director Watkins. “I was really touched as Watkins had done his research about my work. You wouldn’t have expected a celebrated British director to know about you. In fact, after we were done with the shoot, he even wrote a letter in appreciation of my work.”
