The South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA), also known as the Nadigar Sangam, has sent a notice to actress Trisha, seeking an explanation as to why she had opted out of Saamy Square, the sequel to the blockbuster Saamy (2003), featuring her and Vikram in the lead.
The Nadigar Sangam was acting on a complaint that was forwarded to it by the Producers’ Council. It may be recalled that a complaint on behalf of the producer of Saamy Square, Shibu Thameens, had been filed in the Producer Council against Trisha after she announced halfway through the film that she was opting out of it.
The executive committee of the Nadigar Sangam, which scrutinised the complaint that was forwarded by the Producer Council, chose to send a notice to Trisha, asking her to explain within 15 days the reasons for opting out of the project.
Until recently, there was confusion over whether actress Trisha was a part of the Vikram-starrer Saamy Square as on the one hand, the makers kept claiming that she was still a part of the project while the actress’s side kept claiming that she had opted out.
Saamy (2003), directed by Hari, featuring Vikram and Trisha in the lead roles was a hit at the box office. Hari, who decided to make the sequel chose to retain the lead actors, apart from roping in another actress, Keerthy Suresh.
The team shot for the film in Delhi, Chennai and Ooty for a while before Trisha suddenly announced that she was opting out of the project due to creative differences. “Due to creative differences, I have chosen to opt out of Saamy Square. Wishing the team goodluck,” she had tweeted.
Soon after, a complaint was lodged against the actress with the Tamil Film Producers’ Council. Sources claimed that it had been emphasised on Shibu Thameems' behalf that Trisha would have to pay compensation, if she chose not to act in the film.
In the meantime, director Hari, who recently met mediapersons in Tirunelveli had said that Trisha was still a part of Saamy Square and that she was playing an important role in the film.
Trisha’s side, however, reiterated that she was no longer a part of the film. Now, with the Nadigar Sangam’s notice, it has become evident that Trisha is no longer a part of the film.
