Rajput Karni Sena considers protests ‘successful’ despite Padmaavat bagging Rs225 crore

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat faced a series of protests ever since it was in the making. It all started when members of the Rajput Karni Sena gate-crashed into the sets of the film in January last year and assaulted the filmmaker. Following this, when the film was nearing its original release on 1 December 2017, the protests intensified with vehicles and theatres being vandalised. 

Eventually, the release of the film, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, was postponed citing issues with the application submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). 

Although violence and vandalism continued, Padmaavat, earlier titled Padmavati, finally released on 25 January. The film was not released in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Overcoming the hardhips the film has gone onto become a winner at the box office. In a span of two weeks, it has earned almost Rs225 crore in India itself. 

However, the Rajput Karni Sena claims their protests has been a "success."

During an exclusive e-mail interaction, Cinestaan.com pointed out to Vikram Singh Divrala, senior member of the organisation, that the film has fared well even after the Rajput Karni Sena's campaign against the film. On being asked if they consider the campaign successful, Divrala replied, “Yes, our protest has been successful. The film is still banned in few places. We will continue our efforts.”  

Last week another pro-Rajput organization called the Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena withdrew its protest against the film and also extended support for Padmaavat.
