Padmaavat is no longer flying high at the box office, but continues to pump in fairly decent numbers. The box office collection dropped to Rs4.75 crore nett on Thursday (8 February) but Padmaavat still managed to make Rs64.75 crore nett in its second week, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com. The film has so far made Rs224.75 crore nett in its domestic business.
Made at an estimated budget of Rs170-180 crore, Padmaavat had initially released across 3,500 screens in India. The film is still mired in controvery, and wasn't released in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat.
Starting today, Padmaavat will face stiff competition from Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man, which is expected to get a minimum of 2,300 screens. However, in an earlier report, trade analyst Atul Mohan and film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi were of the view that despite Pad Man coming in, Padmaavat would still continue to hold 1,500 screens.
Will Pad Man carry Akshay into the Rs200 crore club?
The third weekend is crucial for Padmaavat for an impressive show during the three-day period would enable it to cross the Rs250-crore nett mark.
Meanwhile, the wheels are coming off Salman Khan’s Christmas week release Tiger Zinda Hai. The film has earned a massive Rs338.97 crore nett in its India business.
