The Valentine's Day week is just beginning, and the makers of Onir's Kuchh Bheege Alfaaz have got just the song to kick off the celebrations.
'Pehla Nasha Once Again' is a throwback to the excitement, freshness, and joy of love. Sung by Jubin Nautiyal and Palak Muchhal, the song has music recreated by Anshuman Mukherjee.
The original song was the perfect romantic ballad of the early 1990s from the film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992) featuring Aamir Khan.
The song is still prevalent today as the perfect song for a perfect romantic setup. The makers of Kuchh Bheege Alfaaz have managed to get the rights to the song and footage from Mansoor Khan to use in the film.
While the song is, in the simplest terms, a cover of the original by Jatin-Lalit, it does give a new dimension to the sound. Nautiyal's jazzy and almost acapella style adds a refreshing touch to the music.
Palak Muchhal is another outstanding voice, but she has little to do here. The composition maintains a sense of minimalism but adds several other instruments. The piano tune, the signature element of the song, goes missing in the middle with the guitar taking over, aided by the percussion. This gives it a new flavour.
The visuals, however, capture the same freshness and excitement of love. Featuring newcomer Zain Khan Durrani and Geetanjali Thapa, the scenes traverse through the beautiful city of Kolkata and the magic of its streets. The song seems to promote the idea of confessing love before the opportunity passes away. The final scene captures the protagonists in a tram, waiting for the right moment.
The film, Kuchh Bheege Alfaaz, is directed by Onir and is set to be released on 16 February. Watch the song below and click here to predict the film's fate at the box office.
