Irrfan Khan's Hindi Medium sequel will go on the floors in August

Irrfan Khan is set to start work in August on a sequel to his 2017 hit Hindi Medium. While the actor will return to play Raj Batra, the gauche Delhi businessman, actress Saba Qamar is unlikely to play his wife. The film was chosen Best Film at the 2017 Filmfare awards.

The original proved to be a refreshing success with its unique take on the Indian education system, and the struggles and divide of students learning in different language mediums.

Earlier in January, Maddock Films founder Dinesh Vijan had confirmed that the production house was aiming for a sequel. Answering our question, Vijan had replied, 'It's happening', but refused to elaborate.

The sequel will take place about a decade in the future. This would mean that Irrfan Khan's little daughter, Pia, will be shown as a teenager in the sequel.

A source said, "The story flash-forwards by a decade so five-year-old Pia will be in her teens now, around 15-16 years. The story will be a fresh take on the Indian educational system with little reference to the original." 

Apart from Saba Qamar, director Saket Chaudhary will also not be part of the sequel. 

Vijan, who had produced the original film with Bhushan Kumar and recently inked a multiple-project film deal with him, will once again produce the film with T-Series.
