Swara Bhasker found herself in a storm for her open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Padmaavat (2018). The Raanjhanaa (2013) actress felt the film glorified the practice of jauhar and sati. What created a stir, though, was her comment that she felt "reduced to a vagina" after watching the film.

Bhasker’s observations drew both praise and flak on social media.

The lady watched Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man and came out praising the film. Pad Man narrates the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham who invented a machine to produce hygienic, low cost sanitary napkins.

Bhasker, popular for her feminist views, found the Akshay Kumar film "very uplifting and empowering". She posted a tweet, "#padman Uplifting, empowering, hopeful, fun & thought provoking.. R v too quick to judge people illogically because r minds r closed by archaic notions like Shame? Kudos #RBalki sir, @mrsfunnybones @swanandkirkire thank uuuuu 4 telling this story."

That wasn’t all. Bhasker praised the lead actors of the film — Akshay, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte — for the effort they have put in for the film. She wrote, "Such wonderful performances in #padman Loved @akshaykumar sir’s earnest lovable turn, @radhika_apte ‘s fantastic conviction & @sonamakapoor u shine with such an easy breezy warm performance bringing such energy and life to this happy hopeful tale. Congrats all."

Akshay Kumar then later thanked Bhasker for her kind words.

While Bhasker seems pretty honest in her assessment of Pad Man, one must remember she is close friends with Sonam Kapoor, her co-star from the upcoming film Veere Di Wedding.

Meanwhile, Union Information & Broadcasting minister, Smriti Irani, took part in panel discussion on mentrual hygiene with the cast of Pad Man and later the film's team hosted a special screening for Irani.

Pad Man is set to be released on 9 February.
