The posters and teaser of Sachin Kundalkar’s Gulabjaam painted a sweet, loving picture of Sonali Kulkarni. But the trailer shows her in a very different light — as an angry, rude recluse.

However, this works for the film as the trailer takes you by surprise. More often than not, trailers are just an extended version of the film's teasers. But the makers of Gulabjaam have done something very different.

The film tells the story of Aditya (Siddharth Chandekar), a London-based NRI who is eager to start a Maharashtrian restaurant. He visits Pune to learn traditional Marathi cooking but all his attempts at hunting for an 'acharya', or teacher, fail. One day, he tastes gulabjaam (a sweet dish) made by a lady named Radha and is instantly reminded of his mother and childhood.

Aditya decides he will learn cooking from her. But Radha is too unfriendly. She hesitantly agrees but makes Aditya carry out all kinds of chores, keeping him far away from what he really wants to do.

Despite Radha's rude nature, the trailer makes it clear the film is a light-hearted affair with good amounts of humour. It will be interesting to see Radha’s back story and how she ends up bonding with Aditya.

Kulkarni and Chandekar’s casting is interesting.

Gulabjaam will be released on 16 February.
