Actress Waheeda Rehman, known for playing iconic roles in Pyaasa (1957), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1961) and Guide (1965), turned 80 today (she was born on 3 February 1938). The actress has largely retired from films, save an occasional special appearance now and then.
Her co-star from the 1970s and 1980s, Amitabh Bachchan, took to Twitter to wish Rehman. He called her, “my most admired, idolised and loved by millions” and said it was “my absolute privilege to have opportunity to work with her in several memorable films, she epitomised Indianness for me ! Greetings and wishes Waheeda ji.”

They notably worked together on films like Reshma Aur Shera (1971), Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Trishul (1978), Namak Halaal (1982) and Mahaan (1983). Incredibly, Rehman played Bachchan’s mother in Yash Chopra’s Trishul, only two years after playing his wife in Kabhi Kabhie.
