Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat started its second week at the domestic box office with a positive note. The film, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, has earned Rs9.50 crore nett on Friday (2 February), as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Padmaavat review: A beautiful costume drama trying too hard to impress

The film had opened with a figure of Rs17.75 crore, approximately, on its day of release (25 January). The paid previews of the film 3D version on 24 January had earned Rs4.25 crore, approximately. A drop of less than 50% on the first day of the second week is encouraging.

Padmaavat had earned a total Rs159.50 crore in its extended first week. The film’s grand total now stands at an impressive Rs169 crore, approximately. The film has earned this number despite not being released in important states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

As per trade sources, the film is made at a budget of around Rs180 crore. Needless to say, the Bhansali directorial needs to maintain its impressive run in the second weekend to finish as a winner at the box office.

With no big film this week, Padmaavat has a good chance of crossing Rs180 crore.

Debutant director Remy Kohli’s Kuldip Patwal: I Didn’t Do It released yesterday. The film has been a washout at the box office.
