The death of Sridevi, shocking as it was, seems to fade next to the drama that has surrounded the cause of her death. The actress's mortal remains have been detained in Dubai for further investigation, while a frenzy of speculations have erupted back home.
In a long post on Facebook on Saturday (24 February), filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma had exclaimed, "I hate God for killing Sridevi and I hate Sridevi for dying." Today, he penned another long letter to her fans blaming them for her troubles, and suggesting that the actress had a very difficult personal life throughout her career.
Sridevi (1963-2018): Chandni fades away
Varma wrote, "Sridevi's life is a classic case of how a celebrity’s personal life is completely different from how the rest of the outside world perceives it."
The filmmaker goes on to suggest that the actress was treated like "a bird in a cage by her overprotective mother". Varma wrote, "In those days actors used to be only paid in mostly [sic] black money and due to fear of tax raids her father used to trust friends and relatives and everyone of them betrayed her the moment her father died. Coupled with this the ignorant mother made many wrong investments in litigated properties and all those mistakes combined made her almost penny less by the time Boney came into her life."
But her mother is not the only one that Varma blames for Sridevi's troubles, he also pulled up the actress's sister, Srilatha, who according to him, filed a case over rights to her mother's property. The filmmaker also hinted at the struggle Sridevi faced in order to be accepted by Boney Kapoor's mother.

The director of Kshana Kshanam (1991) further suggests that the actress was insecure of her growing age, and underwent cosmetic surgery. "She was the most beautiful woman for so many people. But did she think she was beautiful? Yes she did, but every actress's nightmare is age and she was no exception. For years she was doing ocassional cosmetic surgeries the effects of which can be clearly seen...She always came across as a little uptight but that’s because she built a psychological wall around her as she was scared of anybody to really see what's going on within her. She was panicky about anybody knowing what her insecurities were." Varma wrote.

The director finishes off by saying that he hopes Sridevi finds some peace in death, which she couldn't find in life. "I now have visions of you flying like a free bird across heavenly land scapes with true peace and happiness in your eyes," he concluded.
The remains of the late actress are expected to return to India today (27 February). Her last rites will be conducted at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai.
