Autopsy cites accidental drowning as cause of Sridevi's death


The case has been transferred to the Dubai public prosecution while the body has been taken for embalming (preserving a corpse from decay).

The autopsy report of actress Sridevi is out and, as per the Gulf News newspaper, it lists accidental drowning as the cause of the actress's death on Saturday night.

Traces of alcohol were also found in Sridevi's blood. According to the Dubai police, Sridevi's death occurred due to drowning in her hotel apartment's bathtub following loss of consciousness.

Further investigation is on to get more clarity on the reason. An official told Gulf News, “The investigation is still going on to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident as the forensic report only says that she drowned.”

As per the latest update, the body has been taken for embalming (preserving a corpse from decay). The case has been transferred to the Dubai Public Prosecution, as revealed by Dubai Media Office on their official Twitter page. “Dubai Police has transferred the case to Dubai Public Prosecution, which will carry out regular legal procedures followed in such cases,” said the tweet.

Sridevi's remains will be brought to India for the final rites. But, the procedure is far from over.
