The news that Rajinikanth would be working with Karthik has come as a shot in the arm for the young director and producer.

Just when people thought that Rajinikanth would follow actor Kamal Haasan's footsteps and announce his political party's name and flag, the superstar has just done the opposite.
Yes, the next film project of Rajinikant was announced today.
Sun TV, which is owned by Kalanidhi Maran, announced that Maran's production house Sun Pictures would produce the next film of Rajinikanth after 2.0, the magnum opus that the actor is currently working on. 2.0 is being directed by Shankar and produced by Lyca.
Even more interesting is the fact that Rajinikanth's next film is to be directed by young director Karthik Subbaraj, who has made several critically acclaimed films including Jigarthanda (2014) and Pizza (2012).
Director Karthik tweeted: "Really Can't express my happiness in words... My most treasured dream come true moment... Thanks a lot Thalaivaaaaa... @superstarrajini & @sunpictures ... ððð !!"

Karthik's joy at the announcement is understandable.
The young director had been going through a tough phase after his last film, Iraivi (2016), riled several producers and turned them into enemies. He had shown producers in bad light in his film.
In fact, things reached a stage where the Producers' Council even met to discuss the manner in which the film had portrayed producers.
After the film, Karthik had been maintaining a low profile. He produced Aviyal (2016), a collection of five short films, which did reasonably well at the box office.
The news that Rajinikanth would be working with Karthik next has come as a shot in the arm for the young director and producer, who is known to have admitted earlier that he has been a big fan of Rajinikanth all his life.
