Srijit Mukherji wraps up shoot of Ek Je Chhilo Raja

Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji announced on Wednesday (22 February) that the shoot of his upcoming project Ek Je Chhilo Raja has been wrapped up.

Featuring Aparna Sen, Anjan Dutta, Jisshu Sengupta, Rundranil Ghosh, Anirban Bhattacharya and Tanushree Chakraborty in important roles, the story of the film is inspired by Partha Chatterjee’s book, A Princely Imposter, and also draws reference to the court case of Bhawal Sanyasi.

"I have tried to bring out the conflicts of the case in the film and showed how the judicial system worked in the transition period from 19th to 20th century. Nationalism had a big role to play in that case,” Mukherji said in an interview with a Bengali publication.

The film has been shot in various locations in Indo-Nepal border, Kolkata, Darjeeling and Rajasthan. The team shot amidst rainfall, in a temperature that went below 0 degree, at the Indo-Nepal border.

“Jisshu Sengupta, Rudranil Ghosh and Anirban Bhattacharya delivered extra-ordinary performances, not missing a beat, not skipping a cue, and redefining intensity,” Mukherji tweeted.

The director also expressed his joy on working with cinematographer Gairik Sen. “Gairik Sen is ensuring that Ek Je Chhilo Raja will possible be my best shot film since Chotushkone (2014),” he said.

Dutta, too, congratulated both the director and the cinematographer for understanding each other. According to him, Sen was able to see the script, find the correct style and stick to it no matter what came.

“We have pushed the limits of human endurance not blinking even once or letting the intensity dip and have come away as winners” claimed Mukherji.
