Several women's associatons led by All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) began a 48-hour hunger strike against the Vizag police on Wednesday (21 February) for not filing an FIR (first information report) against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma.

After his latest film, God Sex And Truth, released online last month on Vimeo OnDemand, Varma was booked for obscenity for allegedly insulting the modesty of a woman. However, the matter escalated when the filmmaker allegedly asked Mani, an AIDWA member, to act in his next adult film, on a television chat show.

She tried filing a written complaint against the filmmaker at MVP police station in Vishakhapata, but the police refused to file the FIR.

The protesting women are not only demanding that the complaint be registered against him, but also that the filmmaker be arrested immediately.

Talking to the news agency, ANI, Devi, an activist who had filed a compalint against Varma on 25 January with the Telangana police in Hyderabad, asked, “There is no safety in Andhra Pradesh. When Telangana police has filed a FIR, why is Vizag police not doing the same?”

Devi has also alleged that the Vizag police is not arresting Varma because he is a celebrity.

God Sex And Truth is based on adult film actress Mia Malkova. The documentary has her talk about the idea of sex.
