They had to first fight to get their title cleared, now the makers of Veerey Ki Wedding find themselves embroiled in a plagiarism row. According to reports from ANI, Haryanvi singer, Vikas Kumar, has now accused the makers of lifting his track 'Hatt Ja Tau Pachhe Ne' for the film. Kumar has sent the makers a legal notice regarding the same.

Kumar’s 'Hatt Ja Tau Pachhe Ne' song is a popular track from the private album, Naya Lifafa, produced by Dahiya Music. The song was launched on YouTube on 25 February, 2016.

The only common element between the two songs is the mukhda (opening lines) of ‘Hatt Ja Tau Pachhe Ne’. However, beyond those four words, there are no other similarities in the lyrics or the music.

The song is penned by Dr.Devendra Kafir, Ramkesh Jiwanpurwala, and Chandan Bakshi, as credited in the film. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, the song has been composed by Jaidev Kumar.

Cinestaan.com spoke to music director Jaidev Kumar, who revealed that Vikas Kumar does not have rights to the song.

“The rights of this Haryanvi song belong to Mr.Ramkesh Jiwanpurwala, who I think had written the song in around 2006. We have taken permission from Jiwanpurwala and informed him that we are recreating it. He has been credited as a lyricist in our song. Now, Mr.Vikas Kumar sang this song a few years ago. Did he obtain the rights from Ramkeshji? He needs to answer that first," said Jaidev Kumar.

The music director added, “Beyond the four words, ‘Hatt Ja Tau Pachhe Ne, there is no similarity in either lyrics or tunes. Only Vikas Kumar can explain why he has done so.”

If the rights do belong to Jiwanpurwala, then Vikas Kumar might not have a strong case in his favour.

Veerey Ki Wedding stars Kriti Kharbanda and Pulkit Samrat. The film is set to be released on 2 March.
