Kamal Haasan visits Rajinikanth, Karunanidhi, Vijaykanth to seek blessings for first public meeting

Actor Kamal Haasan, who is to launch his political party in his hometown, Ramanathapuram, and address his first public meeting at Madurai on 21 February, is busy meeting political leaders.

Yesterday, the actor called on his contemporary, Rajinikanth, at his Poes Garden residence. Talking to reporters, Haasan said it was a friendly meet and not a political one. "As a practice, we invite each other to events at our homes. We have been friends for over 40 years," Haasan said.

He, however, made it clear that he had extended an invitation to Rajinikanth to attend the impending rally. When asked if Rajinikanth would be present for the Madurai address, he said that it was upto the superstar to make that decision.

Rajinikanth, who took questions from the press after meeting Haasan, said he prayed that Haasan is successful in all his endeavours. Both have clearly dismissed any news of them joining hands on the political front.

“Even in cinema, his style is different from that of mine. In politics too, his style will be different, my style will be different. However, both our aim is the same — to do good for the people of the state. Kamal is not coming to politics for fame, money or power but to do good for the people,” Rajinikanth said.

Haasan visited Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief, M Karunanidhi, at his Gopalapuram residence. Stalin, Karunanidhi's son, warmly received the actor. Sources present at the venue say Haasan was there to seek blessings from the DMK supremo.

The actor said that an alliance with DMK would be considered after his political ideology is announced on 21 February.

This morning (19 February), Haasan also paid a 'courtesy' visit to former president of the South Indian Artistes' Association, Vijaykanth, who is also the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) chief.
