Homi Adajania will direct the sequel to 2017 hit satire Hindi Medium, said producers Dinesh Vijan and T-Series. The story will take a 10-year leap.
"Homi doesn’t make films very often as he refuses to do stuff that doesn’t bowl him over. But when I narrated this one to him, he loved it. And when I saw his reaction, it was a no-brainer! I guess from our production house’s stable of directors, Homi was the most unlikely choice for Hindi Medium 2 and that’s exactly why I have signed him on," Vijan told tabloid Mumbai Mirror.
Adajania and Vijan have earlier collaborated in films like Cocktail (2012) Being Cyrus (2005) and Finding Fanny (2014).
Hind Medium was directed by Saket Chaudhary, but Vijan stated that the director couldn’t direct the sequel due to prior commitments.
While Irrfan Khan and Deepak Dobriyal will return to reprise their roles as Raj Batra and Shyam, respectively, child artiste Dishita Sehgal who played Pia won't be part of the sequel. The new story will take a leap of 10 years. Buzz has it that the makers are in talks with Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter Sara Ali Khan to play Pia.
The likelihood of Pakistani actress Saba Qamar returning as Meeta look slim, especially in the wake of threats by certain political outfits, that are strongly against Indian films employing Pakistani artistes. A source who was closely associated with Hindi Medium said, “Hindi Medium shoot was completed before the Uri terror attack happened. The promotional song had to be shot in Georgia because of that.”
Vijan did not elaborate on whether Qamar would return, but simply told us that Hindi Medium 2 would be released in 2019.
