Emraan Hashmi to act in director Jeethu Joseph's Hindi debut film

Jeethu is known for directing the cult Malayalam thriller, Drishyam (2015) that was later remade in five languages.

Filmmaker Jeethu Joseph, who rose to prominence with the cult Malayalam thriller, Drishyam (2015), is now preparing for his debut in Hindi cinema.

Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Azure Entertainment have roped in the director to helm a horror thriller starring Emraan Hashmi. Rishi Kapoor is also expected to play a pivotal role in the film.

Hashmi announced the development on his Twitter handle today (19 February). "Wait for the mystery to unfold. Very excited about this one. Thrills , mystery ,scares. More updates soon," the actor wrote.

Jeethu's Drishyam (2013), starring Mohanlal, was remade in five languages including Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Sinhala. The Hindi version (2015), directed by Nishikant Kamat, had Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran in lead roles.

The new project will mark Hashmi's return to the genre that was responsible for his rise to stardom. The actor's record with horror films traces back to Raaz: The Mystery Continues (2009). The actor has since been a part of three major horror films, the latest being Ek Thi Daayan (2013).

The yet untitled film is to be shot in a single schedule between May and July 2018.
