Emraan Hashmi's Cheat India to open on Republic Day weekend 2019

The film, directed by Soumik Sen, will revolve around the corruption chaos in the Indian education system.

With release dates being shifted along since the beginning of the year, it seems that filmmakers are rushing in to book the dates for the next year. In keeping with the trend, the makers of actor Emraan Hashmi's Cheat India have fixed upon the Republic Day weekend of 2019 as their day of release. The film will now hit the theatres on 25 January 2019.

The film is being directed by Soumik Sen, and produced by Atul Kasbekar's Ellipsis Entertainment and T-Series. The story of the film revolves around education scams that have taken place in the country over the last few years. The film was initially slotted for a February 2019 release. However, it seems that the makers have picked the Republic Day release as it might fit in well with the social theme of the film.

Hashmi tweeted the announcement on his Twitter account on Friday.

Sen, who last directed Gulaab Gang (2014) starring Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, is set to helm his second film with this Hashmi-starrer.

Speaking about the film in an interview earlier, Hashmi had said, "There will be a lot of revelations that look at the glitches in the system. It’s one of the finest scripts I’ve read in the last 10–15 years. I am thrilled to be essaying what I believe will be a landmark role in my filmography."
