The deaths of 17 people, including several children, at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shootout in Florida, on Wednesday (14 February), has left the United States of America shocked.
Even as the tribute and condolence messages poured in, there is an increasing call for a ban on firearms in the United States. Actress Priyanka Chopra is among the many of those calling for an end to shootouts that have increasingly become frequent in the country.
The actress tweeted in the aftermath of the disaster saying, "This has to stop! Children should be able to go to school and come back home alive. Heartbroken. #stonemanshooting."

Chopra is currently in the United States shooting for her television series, Quantico. She plays a CIA agent Alex Parrish in the series, which is in its third season.
As for the shooting, the United States of America finds itself divided between people wanting stronger gun-control policies, and others suggesting against it.
With Chopra's tweet, it looks like the actress is joining the brigade that suggests stronger gun control might be the way to stop these shootings across the country.
While her presence and stature in the country has grown, it remains to be seen how effective the actress will be in generating some support for the movement to prevent such tragedies.
