Akshay Kumar's Pad Man saw a slight growth in its Wednesday (14 February) collection as it bagged Rs7 crore nett on Valentine's Day, a crore better than the preceding day, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.
In some parts of the country, 14 February was also a holiday on account of the festival of Maha Shivratri.
Pad Man has so far made Rs58.25 crore nett in its domestic business. Made at an estimated budget of Rs70 crore, Pad Man released across 2,750 screens in India.
Meanwhile, Padmaavat that released on 25 January, has managed to cross Rs250 crore nett in India business in three weeks.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film continues to face opposition in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesha and Rajasthan, but has been going strong in the rest of India. According to Boxofficeindia.com, the film had bagged to Rs248.75 crore nett until Tuesday (13 February). Padmaavat earned Rs3.50 crore nett on Tuesday. The earnings for Wednesday have not yet been declared.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan has claimed that the film passed the Rs250 crore nett mark on Monday (12 February) itself. “Padmaavat made around Rs3 crore nett on Valentine's Day. It’s total Indian collection till 14 February is around Rs260 crore nett,” Mohan said.
Padmaavat was made at a budget of around Rs170-180 crore and had released across 3,500 screens in India initially. However, after Pad Man was released, the number of screens dropped to 1,500.
As Padmaavat enters its fourth week at the box office, Mohan foresees a 10% increase in exhibitor's share. “Padmaavat had already made over Rs250 crore nett. If the film goes into the fourth week, and it’s already in profit, the exhibitor share will now be around 60% as opposed to 50%. It’s likely that exhibitors will increase the shows for Padmaavat,” Mohan added.
The trade analyst wasn’t too confident about Pad Man's performance hereafter. "The film hasn’t performed as per expectations. There is not much buzz around the film any more. Pad Man may even struggle to reach Rs100 crore nett mark. It’s India business might end around Rs75 crore nett,” he said.
Pad Man will face competition from two new films from 16 February — Aiyaary and Hollywood film Black Panther.
