Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. When these two names are taken in a sentence, they are bound to be followed by a list of films like Baazigar (1993), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001).

Kajol entered the Hindi film industry with Abbas Mustan's Baazigar. The film had Khan, a relative newcomer, playing the antagonist. He was a serial killer with a heart and a sad history. The film brought him instant fame, and his chemistry with Kajol was not missed either.

In 1995, the pair did two films together. First came Karan Arjun in January and then came Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in October. The former had an large cast, including Salman Khan, Rakhee, Mamta Kulkarni and Amrish Puri, among others, and the focus was on the two Khans. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, however, was all about Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Raj (Khan) and Simran (Kajol) became household names.

Their on-screen love story was replete with beautiful moments, be it the scene in which Simran looks back at Raj when he really wishes she did, or the one where Simran runs into the arms of Raj in the lush, green fields of Punjab.

The film won 10 Filmfare awards and the National Film award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge also became the longest running film in Indian cinema. Over 22 years after its release, the film is still showing at the Maratha Mandir theatre opposite Mumbai Central railway terminus.
