First look: Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma go desi for Sui Dhaaga: Made In India

The two stylish actors leave you awestruck with their rustic avatars in Sharat Katariya’s humble, village film.

Yash Raj Films's (YRF) decision to pair Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma for Sharat Katariya's Sui Dhaaga: Made in India came as a surprise. Dhawan made his debut in 2012, four years after YRF launched Sharma with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008).

Sharma is counted among the top league actresses of today, while Dhawan has only recently emerged as a star. This apart, the big question was would they look good as a pair onscreen?

However, the first look of the characters, released yesterday (12 February), makes us throw all the doubts out of the window, for Dhawan and Sharma look like a pair alright. The casting looks perfect, almost as though stitched in heaven.

The film is inspired by prime minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make In India’ initiative.

The first thing that strikes is the rustic, desi looks given to Dhawan and Sharma. The former plays Mauji, while Sharma will be seen as his wife, Mamta. Dhawan has sported a stubble in a film before, but we don’t recollect him sporting grainy moustache, unkempt hair and wearing simple, dull clothes. He looks like a humble man from a small-town.

Sharma has the donned desi look before, but never has she looked so rustic. Her sari appears slightly attractive, but it’s the body language of a simple, traditional wife from the small town that catches your eye. The thick line of sindoor (vermilion) on her forehead reminds of the traditional women from the Hindi hinterlands. Add to it the manner in which she is seated, Sharma sure looks like a conventional ‘bahurani’ (daughter-in-law).

Sharma and Dhawan’s earthy looks are a sight to behold. Take a bow, Sharat Katariya.

The film is set to be released on 28 September.
