Firkee trailer: A game of kites might determine a lot more if won

Child actor Parth Bhalerao managed to impress with his wit and attitude in Nitesh Tiwari’s Bhoothnath Returns (2014), which was also his Hindi debut film.

He gave further proof of his talent with delightful performances in Marathi films like Killa (2015) and Boyz (2017). The actor will be seen as the lead again in first-time director Suniket Gandhi’s Firkee. Going by the trailer, the young boy appears promising once again. 

Over the last few years, Marathi cinema has started focussing on subjects with kids or adolescents in the center. Raj Gorde's Ghat (2017) and Pushkar Shrotri's Ubuntu (2017) are the recent examples. Firkee is an addition to the list. 

The story revolves around three friends (Bhalerao, Pushkar Lonarkar and Atharva Upasane) in a small village. They go through their challenges at home and school but wish they could fly like the carefree kites. The trio seem to have developed an enmity with a classmate and winning the game of kites is the only way they can rid themselves of the bully.

But despite promising performances and the hardly explored game of kites, the trailer doesn’t create much impact. This might be primarily due to a lack of proper flow and the not-so-comic humour. One can only hope the film is much more impressive than the trailer.

Lonarkar has given fine performances earlier in films like Elizabeth Ekadashi (2014), Chi Va Chi Sau Ka (2017) and Ranjan (2017). The film also stars Hrishikesh Joshi and veteran actress Jyoti Subhash. She is the mother of actress Amruta Subhash and was seen as Akshay Kumar’s mother in the recently released Pad Man (2018).

Firkee is all set to be released on 2 March, on the ocassion of the Holi festival.
