Hansal Mehta's Omerta to be released on 20 April

The film, starring Rajkummar Rao, is based on the life of the terrorist, Omar Saeed Shaikh.

After wining accolades from the festival circuit, Hansal Mehta's Omerta finally has a release date. The film, which has Rajkummar Rao undergo another transformation to become the terrorist, Omar Saeed Shaikh, will be released in theatres on 20 April.

The actor announced the release date on his Twitter handle, sharing the cover image Time magazine that has a picture of him in the Omar Saeed Shaikh avatar. "After #Shahid, #CityLights #Aligarh & #Bose, we are back together with #Omertà releasing on 20th April,2018. @mehtahansal @ShaileshRSingh," he wrote.

The film marks the fifth collaboration between Rao and Mehta after Shahid (2013), Citylights (2014), Aligarh (2016) and the recent web-series, Bose: Dead/Alive.

Omerta premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017 and was the closing film at the Mumbai Film Festival 2017.

The release date might pose a problem for Mehta's film as it will find itself clashing with the Prabhas-starrer Saaho and the Akshay Kumar-Rajinikanth sci-fi movie 2.0.

Rajkummar Rao had a wornderful 2017 with Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), Trapped (2017), Newton (2017), all earning him rave reviews and commercial success. The actor will also be seen alongside Shraddha Kapoor in Amar Kaushik's Stree, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Fanne Khan, later this year.
