Veerey Ki Wedding trailer: Jimmy Shergill the wedge in Pulkit Samrat-Kriti Kharbanda's love story

With a (almost) name clash with the Sonam Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor Khan-starrer, Veerey Ki Wedding seemed to have kicked off on the wrong foot. However, the film's trailer puts to rest any worries about similarities. The film is a throwback to the 'hate turns into love' story that was a very popular theme in the 1990s.
The film, evidently, revolves around the hate-love relationship between Veer Arora (Pulkit Samrat) and Geet (Kriti Kharbanda). While Veerey is desperately in love with her, typical Hindi film hero style, Geet is the no-nonsense girl who doesn't mince her words. Enter Veerey's brother, Balli (Jimmy Shergill), a roguish thug who steps in the middle and destroys any chances he might have. What follows is the struggle to make Veerey's wedding a reality.
The trailer is fairly entertaining with the usual gimmicks of a hero-heroine love story. While Pulkit Samrat gives it another go as a poor man's Salman Khan, complete with the muscles, Kriti Kharbanda plays the rebellious girl who won't give him a chance. Satish Kaushik returns as a funny man, but as the helpless father of Kharbanda's character, he is faced with the trouble of saying no to a seriously troublesome family.
But it is Shergill who makes an impact with his dialogues. The actor is cast, yet again, as the bachelor, do-gooder brother who sets up Veerey. The actor is given some really scene-stealing lines, including one where he says 'Rahul, Salman Bhai (Khan) and I have a deal with each other. When we marry, we will marry together." This is a self-reference to his own 'always the bridesmaid and never the bride' syndrome.
Veerey Ki Wedding is directed by Asshu Trikha, and is set to be released on 9 March.
