Shahid Kapoor on Padmaavat row: We learnt to keep our emotions in check

As things have started to settle down and Padmaavat is about to complete a week in theatres (without being released in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana), people associated with the film are slowly opening up.

Shahid Kapoor, who plays Rawal Ratan Singh, expressed what all they went through. “We missed out on a lot of things. We had to make lots of sacrifices. We had to learn to keep a lot of emotions in our hearts for one-and-a-half years in check. We had to be politically correct. The film had to go through a lot. But, today we feel vindicated,” he said on the sidelines of the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai where he walked the ramp with wife Mira Rajput.

Despite Padmaavat not releasing in three important states, the film is on its way to hit the Rs150-crore box office mark in India. Kapoor is, obviously, delighted. “We are very, very happy and grateful. This country has always supported good films and that's what has happened. The love and result has been more than what I expected,” he added.

From suffering acts of vandalism to death threats to an attack on a school bus, were all done to stop Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film from being released. These acts were undertaken by fringe groups who felt the film allegedly insulted 'Rajput pride'.
