Indian singer Mika Singh, who was detained by the Dubai police for allegedly sending lewd pictures to a 17-year-old Brazilian, has been released.
The singer was to be produced in court today, though it’s a holiday in the United Arab Emirates.
According to a report in TribuneIndia.com, the Indian embassy stepped in to seek the singer's release.
“Our embassy is following the issue closely with UAE authorities. Our team was at the police facilities till he was released. He was grateful for all the help he received from the mission. We will continue to follow up the matter,” Navdeep Suri, India's ambassador to the UAE, told TribuneIndia.com.
Mika Singh was accused of sexual misconduct. A source earlier said Mika Singh was in Dubai where he attended the local Masala Night awards. The singer befriended the Brazilian at the afterparty and exchanged numbers. Mika Singh is said to have sent the obscene messages in an inebriated state.
This is not the first time Mika Singh has had a run-in with the law. In 2013, he was detained by customs at Mumbai airport for carrying Indian and foreign currency beyond the permissible limit.
