Many established producers and corporates are branching into the digital space with original content. The latest one to join is Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions with Dharmatic Productions.
Eros Now, the OTP platform of Eros International is set to launch a staggering 100 new originals in the course of the next 18 months. The new content would feature original digital series, films and short-film content.
Eros Digital COO Ali Hussein told Variety magazine, "Over the last six to nine months what Eros has made known to the rest of the industry is that we are looking to scale up our investment in the Eros Now platform."
Eros International would be investing between $50 million to $70 million (Rs355 crore to Rs497 crore, approximately) in the production.
“We are looking to make more relevant programming for the right kind of audience set in the country,” Hussein said, adding, "The total investment in the original content slate will be in the range of $50 to $70 million."
A few years ago, Eros Now had announced a host of original content that included the much-acclaimed Inside Edge, that eventually streamed on Amazon Prime Video, and the horror show with Bipasha Basu. Unfortunately, those plans couldn’t materialize then, but there’s no holding back for Eros International as they go big in the digital space.
The company recently launched digital shows Side Hero, Smoke and the Aanand L Rai directorial Meri Nimmo.
