Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif dated for almost eight years before parting ways in 2016.
The star couple began seeing each other while shooting for Rajkumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009).
Despite their breakup, the two honoured their commitment to Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos (2017), a film that failed at the box office.
Kapoor had earlier spoken about being hurt by the breakup, but the actor has since moved on and is currently said to be dating actress Alia Bhatt. Kaif has remained single.
In an interview with the Indian edition of lifestyle magazine Vogue, the actress has now called her parting from Kapoor "a blessing".
Opening up on the breakup and sharing how being single has helped her to become more focused, she said, “I now see it as a blessing because I was able to recognize my patterns, thought processes and things that I had been so sure of my whole life. I could see them from a whole different perspective.
"What human nature does is that when we have something, or someone, to focus on, we can also shift a lot of our attention there, so we are not really forced to look at ourselves in any great perspective. We are able to kind of shift a lot of responsibility for decisions, for happiness, for entertainment and motivation. So now, when the sole burden of your life, what you are doing, and your state of mind is on your shoulders because there is nothing to distract you, that is a very intense time."
Kaif was last seen in Thugs Of Hindostan (2018), which, too, bombed at the box office. She will next be seen in Aanand L Rai's upcoming film Zero, which hits the screens on 21 December. The film also stars Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan.
